Testament of Youth opens in cinemas

The First World War memoirs of Vera Brittain have been turned into a major film production which opens in cinemas this weekend.

The film was met with acclaim as it premiered at the opening of the 2014 Foyle Film Festival in Derry~Londonderry last November. 

Adapted from her writings, Testament of Youth explores Vera's decision to delay her studies and the impact war had on her life.

Brittain, who passed up her university studies to serve as a Voluntary Aid Detachment nurse during the conflict, later became an author and pacificist.

Her fiance Roland Leighton, played in the movie by Game Of Thrones actor Kit Harrington, was killed during fighting as well as her brother Edward and two close friends.
