Properties open their doors for European Heritage Open Day

Up to 400 properties across Northern Ireland will open their doors to the public this weekend as part of European Heritage Open Days (EHOD).

This year, in support of the Deaprtment of Culture, Arts and Leisure's work on the Decade of Centenaries, EHOD has chosen 'Anniversaries' as its theme, looking at the political, social and cultural consequences of what happened between 1912-22 across the island of Ireland.

As many of the anniversaries throughout the decade have an international significance, as well as resonating locally, it is the collective commemoration of unique local anniversaries which are highlighted in this year's brochure.

Walks, talks and tours have been organised for Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September as well as cultural, crafts, food and historical events. 'Living History' re-enactments will also pop up across Northern Ireland making history more accessible.
