PRONI to host teachers' workshop

A special workshop for teachers around issues of the Easter Rising, First World War and other events in the Decade of Centenaries will take place at PRONI on September 23.

Organised in partnership with the History Teachers Association of Northern Ireland, the workshop, entitled, ‘Ireland, Home Rule and the First World War - 1912-1916’, will feature contributions from:

• Dr Timothy Bowman, Senior Lecturer in History at the University of Kent whose research interests include the British army in the Great War and the Ulster Volunteer Force of 1910-22;

• Dr Russell Rees, teacher, historian, and author of a range of publications on Irish history tailored to correspond with the CCEA curriculum;

• the Nerve Centre, Northern Ireland’s leading creative media arts centre;

• and PRONI, home to c.3 million archival documents relating mainly to the north of Ireland and NI’s connections worldwide.

The workshop aims to explore the historical context of this period, raise awareness of the range of primary sources available at PRONI and develop skills on source interpretation, evaluation and analysis.

This event is aimed at teachers, educators, group facilitators and anyone with an interest in exploring the First World War using local archive sources.

The workshop will run subject to meeting a minimum registration number so booking is essential. For more infomation and to register, contact PRONI: 028 9053 4800
