Primary school students explore Creative Centenaries comics

Primary school students in Derry~Londonderry had the chance to explore the events of 1916 through Creative Centenaries comics last week as part of the Foyle Film Festival.

The annual festival's education programme sees students and young people across the North West benefit from training in a range of creative and digital media.

Primary 7 students at Sacred Heart Primary School used the comic books to examine the Battle of the Somme and the Easter Rising, creating their own First World War recruitment poster and short comic books commemorating the role of women in the Easter Rising.

The innovative resources have been curriculum mapped to Key Stage 2 and include a wealth of information on a pivotal year in Ireland's history as well as digital tasks which can be completed in the classroom.
