Join the Living Memory Team

The Living Memory project remembers the 300,000 war graves or commemorations right here in the UK. In total, CWGC has graves located in 13,000 UK locations, 200 of which are major sites and almost all in big city cemeteries and linked to the hospitals.

On the centenary of the Battle of the Somme the CWGC, in partnership with Big Ideas Company, is asking the public in the British Isles to re-connect with the war dead buried in their own communities.

This project is marking the 141 days of the Battle of the Somme, July 1 to November 18, through 141 different community engagement events, centred around different CWGC sites in the UK.

Funding and creative resources will be available to community groups, encouraging them to take an active role in remembrance; visiting sites, discovering more about those buried locally using the CWGC database, undertaking activities at cemeteries, and sharing discoveries with other members of the community through exhibitions, local press, poetry writing and much more. From there, we want people to champion these sites: tell their friends, tell other local community groups. They must not be forgotten.

Big Ideas Company are recruiting six Area Managers across the UK to work alongside the Project Manager with responsibility for recruiting, managing and supporting Living Memory community groups. Each Area Manager will have recruitment targets to meet across the period and will be responsible for ensuring that a diverse range of community groups participate in the project.

Please note that this positon is employed by Big Ideas Company not the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Area Managers will report to Big Ideas Company but will be working alongside staff from the CWGC to deliver this joint initiative.

Areas: South England, London, Midlands & Wales, North England, Northern Ireland and Scotland. (England posts are total of 47 contract days and Scotland and Northern Ireland posts 31 contract days due to variation in recruitment targets per area.
