Creative Centenaries celebrated at Belfast launch

The Creative Centenaries programme was displayed to the public for the first time this week with a launch event in partnership with the Linen Hall Library in Belfast.

Led by Nerve Centre, Creative Centenaries brings together information and resources around the Decade of Centenaries and shines a light on the work being done by Northern Ireland's creative sector in remembering these events.

A packed venue heard from some key voices, including Luke Smith, digital lead for the First World War Centenary at Imperial War Museum, London; and Mark Duncan, Director of Century Ireland, an online historical newspaper hosted by RTE, who led a morning session exploring the huge impact the two resources are having on commemorating and remembering events within this important decade.

In the afternoon, attendees had the opportunity to view and get their hands on some of the latest technological advancements being undertaken by Creative Centenaries including interactive iBooks, comic books on the Easter Rising and the Battle of the Somme and 3D animations.
