Councils produce new Somme comic book

A new comic book from Armagh County Museum, Craigavon Museum Service and Monaghan County Museum explores local connections to the Battle of the Somme.

The new resource follows the real life stories of Tommy Chambers from Armagh, Thomas Hughes VC from Monaghan and Anne Acheson from Portadown - all of whom were connected to the battle.

'There is a cohort that all museums struggle to attract - that is typically teenagers and secondary school pupils,' said Liam Bradley, Curator at Monaghan County Museum.

'We were looking for ways to attract and target them. With the huge amount of impact that comic books have on film, art and popular culture, we thought this was a good way to tell the personal stories.'
