Council offer free trip to Somme Heritage Centre

Derry City and Strabane District Council's Good Relations Team are offering local residents the opportunity to visit the Somme Heritage Centre in Bangor for free.

The visit is a chance to engage in conversations around commemoration and remembrance in the lead up to the centenary of the Battle of the Somme in 2016.

The Somme Heritage Centre Tour includes information on the Home Rule Crisis, World War 1 recruitment and battles, Artefacts, 10th (Irish) Division, 16th (Irish) Division and 36th (Ulster) Division information.

Registration for bookings will open at 10am on Monday, October 5 and applicants must be aged 16 or over.

Buses will depart from both the council offices at Derry Road in Strabane and from the Shared Futures Centre, Waterside in Derry-Londonderry. The trip is free, and includes admission to the centre, and a light lunch.
