Armistice People's Procession Invitation: Create an Unremembered Wreath

Big Ideas has been asked to invite schools and community groups from across the UK to take part in an exciting funded opportunity to be involved in a national moment on November 11 as part of The Unremembered programme.

The Unremembered: World War One’s Army of Workers is a First World War commemoration programme led by Big Ideas and funded by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and a National Lottery grant from the Big Lottery Fund. The project commemorates the Labour Corps from across the world who served in the First World War. Many died, but their contributions are rarely acknowledged today.

Schools and community groups are invited to create commemorative wreaths for The Unremembered, and take part in 'The People's Procession' on November 11, in London. The procession will be taking place along Whitehall to the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday; those attending will be able to lay their Unremembered wreath at the Cenotaph. This is a wonderful opportunity to ensure that commemoration of the Labour Corps will have its place at the heart of Remembrance Sunday, and for your community group.

Big Ideas can provide up to £200 if you would like funding to create your wreath, as well as free resources. This can also go towards costs for other commemorative activities, and transport to London on the November 11. I have attached a funding application to this email if you are interested.

Please let us know as soon as possible if you would like to create an Unremembered wreath, and whether two members of your community group are able attend the People’s Procession on November 11 to carry and lay your Unremembered Wreath. We will also need to know the full names and contact details of the attendees by October 11.

Wreaths will need to be completed by October 30, and photos sent to theunremembered@big-ideas.org.

Commemorate The Unremembered100

We are delighted to invite community groups to further their Unremembered commemoration activities by taking part in our Unremembered100 Billboard campaign. We have partnered with Clear Channel, a digital advertising agency, and through November will be displaying photos of community groups commemorating 100 members of the Labour Corps from around the world. I have attached more information about this to this email. Please get in touch on theunremembered@big-ideas.org if you are interested, and would like to receive the toolkit.
