About this Event

The National Library of Ireland's centre for lifelong learning is hosting a free online course on the events of the decade of centenaries.

During this four-week online course, UCC historian Helene O'Keeffe provides an overview of the Irish Revolutionary period (1912-1923) through a selection of maps developed by the Atlas of the Irish Revolution team and primary sources from the NLI’s archive of images and documents.

The course begins with the Home Rule Crisis of 1912-1914 and traces the political and military campaigns for Independence through the 1916 Rising and the Irish War of Independence to the signing of the Anglo-Irish Treaty in December 1921. The course concludes with an examination of the events, personalities and consequences of the Irish Civil War, before assessing the legacy of this most tumultuous decade.

The session on 23 June runs from 2pm-4pm, and explores the War of Independence.

The course is run online via Zoom. Places are free, but booking is required.
