Writer, researcher Philip Orr will deliver a talk on how rich and complex history can be, from the United Irishmen in 1798 to British soldiers at the Somme.

He will talk about his own family history, and that of the McKinney family of Sentry Hill, whose family artefacts include United Irishmen memorabilia and photos of Tom, the only son, after whose death at the Somme, the farm went to ruin.

Philip will also discuss the reasons for and impact of the loss of republican ideology of many Protestants (all three families had illustrious ’98 ancestry).
