PRONI will host the launch of a new book by Trevor Parkhill on November 11, 2014, entitled ‘The First World War Diaries of Emma Duffin, Belfast Voluntary Aid Detachment Nurse’.

Emma Duffin, born in Belfast, compiled diaries throughout her experience as a Voluntary Aid Detachment Nurse caring for wounded soldiers brought directly from the battlefield.

She served in the north of France from the period immediately before the Battle of the Somme until the Armistice in 1918. Her diaries also include instances when she refers to hospitalised German prisoners with whom she communicated, having spent time in Germany before the war.

The launch takes place in PRONI on November 11 (exact time TBC - contact PRONI for more information) and admission is free. Contact PRONI to secure your place, email: proni@dcalni.gov.uk or tel: 028 9053 4800.
